Long Story Short

Why this product?

Keeping your tires at optimal pressure increases efficiency, and having your own pump means not relying on finding a public one at a gas station. Also, not any generic pump can fill Tesla tires since they require more pressure than a standard car.

Why this brand?

This brand offers a highly reliable, portable and, cost-effective product.

Any regrets?

None.

Long Story Long

Most modern cars provide TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) so you can see your tire pressure from inside the car. Properly inflated tires mean (a) your car is moving more efficiently aka not wasting battery, and (b) your tires last longer. Most handy-oriented folks would already know this existed, but it wasn’t until I got a mobile service from Tesla and the guy showed up with a portable pump that I got the light bulb moment where I realized I could fill the air in my tires (and for the other cars!) at home.

Old ways:

  • Go out of your way to your dealer/tire installer to have someone inflate your tires for you. Maybe there’s a line, maybe that facility isn’t that close to you, but it’s almost always a disproportionate hassle compared to the action of merely adding air to your tires.

  • Go to a gas station that has an air pump. Part of the benefit of having an EV is never going to a gas station ever again, but they do provide air pumps. Now you might know from experience that there is a wide range of options here. Sometimes it’s free, sometimes you have to pay (with coins!). Sometimes you get a high end machine that you set the pressure and the machine does all the work, and sometimes your only option is the one where you have to squeeze the handle, stop, look at the measuring stick, squeeze, stop, look repeat etc. (and hopefully you don’t have to do this at night! Either way, you’re always dragging that dirty hose all around the car, and hopefully you’ve parked it right to get all the tires.

New way:

  • Get your own battery-powered pump and keep it in the car! You set the pressure once and the pump remembers it and automatically fills the tire to that pressure. Then you move the lightweight unit from tire to tire until you’re done, and voila, all tires are back to optimal pressure in the comfort of your own garage/driveway/where ever. The other benefit of having this in your car is for emergencies, for example, if you run over something that causes a loss of pressure, you can immediately reinflate your tire (or at least mitigate a leak until you get closer to somewhere you can get help).

Product Details

What I like:

Comes with everything you need (pump, AC chargers, in-car charger, case, extra needles for balls) and has really reduced my anxiety about finding public air pumps.

What I don’t like:

None, I’ve used it so often and am so happy every time I can do this at home.

Installation Tips

None - takes a one-time setup to dial in your desired pressure, then every time after that, it’s as easy as attaching it to your valve stems and pushing one button.
