Long Story Short
Why this product?
Remember that morning that the sun was over your shoulder as you were turning in your car, then it reflected off you center screen and blinded you? You ever get tired of all the fingerprints and smudges on your screen? Or are your hands slightly oily like mine and your fingers stick as you swipe around the screen? This fixes all those problems..
Why this brand?
Like the magnetic cell phone mount in another post, the Spigen brand is generally one I trust.
Any regrets?
Sometimes….while the sun no longer blinds me with its reflected glory, in heavy sunlight at certain angles, the screen protector essentially looks opaque and washes out the display.
Long Story Long
Love it or hate it, Telsa wants you to do everything in your car via that screen (or voice commands). However, this screen introduces some unique challenges:
Blinding reflections: If you’re not a vampire, you’ve probably driven at some point during the day and had the sun reflected off the screen and into your eyes. Or you’re driving in a direction where the sun is overhead and you can see the bright spot of light on your screen as filtered from the roof glass. I am generally pretty sensitive to light, so this was a major issue that this screen solved for me.
Fingerprints: Like a phone, the only way to interact with your car is that screen, but unlike a phone, it’s not as easy to rub on your shirt or pants to get most of those smudges off. I suppose you could keep a cloth in the car to regularly wipe the screen, but for me, the compulsion would be to wipe every time I touched the screen and this just allows me to avoid that issue.
Stickiness: Hand in had with the fingerprint issues (sorry) is the fact that the more stuff gets on your screen, the harder it is to swipe on things. And if you have naturally oily fingers, you’re more likely to get stuck while swiping. This screen keeps the swipes super smooth.
Product Details
What I like:
Very simple and effective product, quality material, and highly structured installation process.
What I don’t like:
The “highly structured” installation process creates a ton of trash, which is unfortunate.
Installation Tips
They installation instructions they give you make it 99% idiot proof, but even then, I thought I came close to messing up when I saw some residual bubbles. However, as with most “film on glass” screen protectors, you just need to be diligent about scraping out the excess air to the best of your ability and let the rest of the bubbles naturally dissipate over time (2 days).
Alternatives
SUMK (SUMK Screen Protector)
This is a little cheaper with good reviews, but a word of caution that you get what you pay for.
