Long Story Short

Why this product?

Reclaim space and create functional storage in both front console storage spaces.

Why this brand?

Minimal difference between brands, but I like the rubberized surface and the layout of the tray that holds sunglasses (left), cards (middle), and a mini flashlight (right).

Any regrets?

None - no more searching through a jumble of things scattered in a deep storage hole.

Long Story Long

Coming from a first generation Model S with essentially zero storage up front, the Model Y has two cavernous storage spaces in the center console. However, in typical Tesla fashion, it’s two steps forward and one step back, since this creates the “oversized purse” problem where things just disappear into the void and become especially hard to find while you’re driving. What this product cleverly does is split the storage abyss into two layers so that you can put frequently accessed items on top and everything else below.

  • What I keep in the front storage: Top - sunglasses, sunglass wipes, access cards, restaurant gift cards, mini LED flashlight, loose change. Bottom - microfiber towel, tylenol, hand sanitizer, charging adapter

  • What I keep in the rear storage: Top - USB-C charging cables plugged into the cigarette lighter, extra napkins, small plastic bags. Bottom - nothing here since I can’t think of anything else that should go down there!

Product Details

What I like:

Much more efficient use of the generous amount of space Tesla has provided.

What I don’t like:

The front drawer slides around while the car is in motion - you won’t notice while driving if the cover is closed, but if you need your sunglasses, sometimes you have to pull the drawer forward (it won’t stay in place at the last setting you left it). The rear bottom space should be reserved for very infrequently used items (or for hiding things) since you have to remove the top level shelf to get down there.

Installation Tips

The trays literally just drop into place without any trouble. There is a third piece that goes into the armrest cover, but I didn’t bother to install it since I didn’t have a use for it.

Alternatives

Spigen (Spigen Console Organizer)

Spigen makes quality products and you can’t go wrong with a brand name here since the price differential is not that large (plus it has a snazzy carbon fiber accent).

Basenor (Basenor Console Organizer)

Basenor is another well-known brand for Tesla accessories. Again, this comes down to personal preference on materials and compartment layout.
